We know how stressful it can be to dress for a wedding, so we’ve come up with some helpful tips and tricks for just the occasion!
- The Bride. Always ask the bride of the wedding you are attending if they have any dress code specifications. If the wedding has a particular theme, she may expect her guests to dress appropriately. Her guidelines could also include dress length, sleeve length, or color.
- The Season. If the bride does not ask for a specific dress code, one of the first things you should consider is when the wedding is happening. If it is a spring or summer wedding, you may want to wear a floral dress, or something with bright colors or a pattern. Light, pastel colors are also fitting for a warm wedding, but avoid wearing white (so that you don’t match the bride!). If the wedding is taking place in the fall or winter, jewel-tones and metallic fabrics would be fitting. No matter what the season, be sure to bring a wrap or shawl in case it is cooler than expected.
- The Venue. It is also important to note whether the wedding is happening indoors or outdoors. For an outdoor event, you may want to explore dresses with light, floaty fabrics, such as chiffon, jersey, or lace. If it is indoors, you might go for something with satin, velvet, or decorative beading or sequins.
- Time of Day. While morning ceremonies tend to expect more casual attire, evening weddings are usually more formal. The bride will often give guidelines about formality. Typical semi-formal attire would be a midi-length cocktail dress, or a more casual maxi-length dress. No matter what time of day, have fun with the heels and statement jewelry!
